History and Background

The Horizons Albuquerque program began in the summer of 2014 at Bosque School, welcoming 46 students entering 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. In 2017, our program expanded to include Manzano Day School, and again in 2019 with the addition of Sandia Preparatory School (Sandia Prep). Today, our students complete grades K-5 at Manzano Day School, grades 6-8 at Bosque School, and grades 9-12 at Sandia Prep. In summer 2023, Horizons Albuquerque served 180 students from kindergarten to 12th grade. In May 2023 our first class of Horizons Albuquerque students graduated from high school.

I have been a teacher for 43 years and when I was asked to help at Horizons, that was 11 years ago. One of the things that came to my mind was the teachers that made a difference in my life. And so I decided I need to make a difference in other kids’ lives, and so that’s why I did the program. In the 11 years I’ve been here I have seen students grow from the inside out.
