Creating the Future:  A Community Project Through NASA Sciences

Horizons is honored to partner with Explora and the University of Arizona to conduct research through a grant with NASA to learn how our community envisions the future. Five Horizons' students led a panel as Youth Ambassadors at the September Youth Summit on the Future, co-hosted by Explora and STEM-NM. Students shared their ideas regarding their thoughts on the future, bringing together over 50 Hispanic/Latinx teens from X Studio, Horizons Albuquerque, and Future Focused Education for deep connection, including a keynote session with a professional futurist, discussion panels, facilitated conversations, breakout groups and listening circles, a shared meal, artistic performances, and group exploration of hands-on activities. Our Youth Ambassadors had opportunities to lead through co-facilitation with community partners and to listen and contribute stories of multiple perspectives on the future. Explora captured the content generated through summit activities in various ways, such as through video recordings, a visual notetaker/recorder, and more. Students' ideas will be showcased through a more extensive project culminating in an exhibit at Explora.
